2020 Trip Postponed to 2021

Dear members of the Carolina Geological Society,

The CGS Board of Directors has been monitoring the current status of the coronavirus (COVID-19), and what steps should be taken moving forward, especially in regards to our Annual Business Meeting and Fieldtrip.  The health and safety of our members and event attendees are always our highest priorities.

As everyone is aware, this is a rapidly evolving situation, and we continue to follow the latest updates from a wide variety of sources for guidance on the most effective and sensible measures to prevent the contraction and spread of COVID-19.

Therefore, after due consideration, the CGS Board of Directors have voted unanimously to postpone this year’s planned field trip and meeting.  Our field trip leader Joe Forrest has graciously agreed to move this year’s trip to next year, around the same dates of September 17-19, 2021.

“We are also researching the possibility of conducting a multi-day virtual meeting this fall, which would include talks from interested members, in place of the in-person meeting and field trip. The CGS Board of Directors anticipates being able to award CE credits for meeting attendance.

Please know that the Board did not come to this decision lightly, as a CGS field trip has not been cancelled since World War II.  Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work together for the health and safety of all of our attendees.

Sincerely,

Tyler Clark

CGS Secretary-Treasurer
